Desitin is a medium-sized family business and protecting natural resources is close to our hearts. For us, sustainability and efficient use of resources form part of our strategy and operations, always keeping in mind the aim to protect our environment.

Our drive

The further development and manufacturing of our products and sales consume resources and we are conscious of this fact. It motivates us, day-in, day-out, to design and change our business in such a way that minimizes our impact on the environment. By making careful use of raw materials and resources, we also endeavor to protect and preserve our planet for future generations.

Other cornerstones

Energy

We buy electricity from a provider that already uses 58.9 % renewable energy sources such as wind, hydropower and solar power. At present, 311 grams of CO₂ are released for every kilowatt hour we use. Our external and facility lighting are based on energy-saving LED technology and we are continuously working to eventually replace all of our old lighting. In addition, we have been able to significantly reduce our energy consumption with measures such as optimizing drying processes during production.

Water

We need clean water for various production stages. However, we are working continuously to reduce our consumption. We have since been able to produce our oral suspensions, for example, in such a way that no longer requires the heating and cooling of large quantities of water. This also saves energy. What is more, we carry out regular checks and measurements to ensure that contaminants or residues do not enter our drinking and ground water.

Supply chain & recycling

When selecting our suppliers, we make sure that they also produce their goods as sustainably as possible. For example, packaging is produced for us using solar power. We are also working to cut the necessary transport journeys. We use recyclable Europa pallets in our warehouses, while we have also successfully reduced paper consumption in our administrative departments by a third in the last two years alone.

Company site & logistics

Desitin is located in Hamburg on a historic production site. However, we have always valued a biodiverse, green company site. Green space now accounts for around one third of our site. Our employees are also provided with multiple charging points for climate-friendly cars, as well as discounted local public transport tickets and bicycle leasing.
